Rigathi Gachagua, the newly elected deputy president of Kenya, has embraced a nickname given to him by young Kenyans.

"Riggy G is melodious," he said at a primary schools music festival being held in the western county of Kisumu.

The 56-year-old was President William Ruto's running mate in the 9 August election.

His combative campaigning style, which critics had said was a liability, proved to be an asset.
