Fuel prices jump to Sh179 per litre as State removes subsidy

Petrol price is up by 20.18 a litre, diesel increased by Sh25 while kerosene is up Sh20.

•On the other hand, diesel will price has increased by Sh25 and will now retail at Sh165 in Nairobi.

A litre of petrol in Nairobi will now retail at Sh179.30 up from Sh 159 in new prices announced by Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

In the changes, a litre of unleaded (Petrol) fuel will retail at Sh179.30, with zero subsidy, representing a hike by Sh20.18.

On the other hand, diesel price has increased by Sh25 and will now retail at Sh165 in Nairobi. 

The price of Kerosene has increased by Sh20 meaning it will retail a Sh147.94 in Nairobi.

The prices are inclusive of 8 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT).

The hike in fuel prices follows removal of fuel subsidy on petroleum products by President William Ruto's government as earlier communicated.

Although the subsidy for super petrol has been removed, a subsidy of Sh20.82 a litre  and Sh26.25 a litre was retained for diesel and kerosene respectively.

The changes in fuel prices take effect immediately.
