Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has weighed in on President William Ruto's decision to revoke the country's recognition of the Sahrawi Democratic Republic as an independent state.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Ahmednasir said the people of SADR have the rights to be recognized.

"On this, I respectfully disagree with President William Ruto. The Sahrawi People of Western Sahara have the right of Peoples to self-determination," he said.

He added, "Morocco is a colonizing State."

The SADR is a Western Saharan state that has been claimed by both Morocco and Mauritius.

Ruto cancelled the recognition after a meeting with an envoy from Morocco.

The messenger had brought a congratulatory message from His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco.

"Kenya rescinds its recognition of the SADR and initiates steps to wind down the entity’s presence in the country," Ruto said.

Further to the revoking, Ruto said Kenya supports the United Nations framework as the exclusive mechanism to find a lasting solution to the dispute over Western Sahara.
