Azimio running mate Martha Karua on Tuesday sent a heartfelt appreciation message to their supports.

In a statement, Karua thanked all who supported their quest to lead the country for their courage and patriotism.

"For those who stood with us, thank you for your courage, fight and patriotism. Thank you for standing with us," she said in a tweet.

Her remarks come a day after the Supreme Court in a unanimous ruling upheld William Ruto's election as the fifth President-elect of the Republic of Kenya.

Reading the verdict on Monday, Chief Justice Martha Koome said Ruto garnered 50 percent plus one vote cast.

In the August 9 presidential results, Ruto polled 7,176,141 (50.49 per cent) to secure the 50 per cent plus one required to win the presidency in the first round.

Speaking after the ruling, Raila Odinga and Karua said they respect the decision of the court but don't agree with it.

They said their quest for a transparent and democratic country will continue, regardless.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chairperson Wafula Chebukati said the Supreme Court verdict on the presidential petition had vindicated the commission.

In a press statement Monday, Chebukati said despite intimidation and assault of the commission staff including himself, the court's decision had proven they conducted the August 9 general election in accordance with the law.

"The Supreme Court judgment today is a testimony that the commission conducted a free, fair, transparent and credible general election that met the democratic aspirations of the people of Kenya," Chebukati said.

"The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission is finally vindicated," he added.
