A-75-year old man has been brutally murdered under unclear circumstances in Kangundo subcounty, Machakos county.

Joseph Mbindyo Mutua was reportedly killed by an unknown assailant while he was walking home along Kakuyuni -Kavilinguni Road at Kaewa village on Tuesday.

Subcounty police commander Zechariah Bitok said the incident was reported to Kakuyuni police station as a murder report under OB NO:  17/30/08/2022 at 19:30 hours.

“It was reported by one Daniel Kimemwa of Kaewa village that yesterday at around 18:00 hours, he was called by his wife namely Judith Mutheu that his cousin Joseph Mbindyo Mutua had been fatally assaulted at Kaewa area,” Bitok said.

Bitok addressed the press on Wednesday.

“The deceased was walking home along Kakuyuni -Kavilinguni road when he was reportedly assaulted by unknown assailant,” Bitok said.

He said the motive for the killing wasn't immediately established.

Senior police officers from both Kakuyuni and Kangundo police stations visited the scene.

“It was established that the deceased had been hacked on the rear side of his head and also the right lower side of his leg had been cut,” Bitok said.

The body was moved to Kangundo Level Four hospital’s mortuary awaiting a postmortem.

Bitok said DCI detectives attached to Kangundo police division command had taken over the probe and were in pursuit of the suspect.
