The voting exercise has started in many polling stations within Mkomani ward in Nyali constituency.

However, the region is experiencing low voter turnout.

At Maweni Primary School, a polling centre with over 5,000 registered voters, there are very few people lined up to vote.

Low turn out  was also  reported at Amani primary which has 11 polling stations.

A total of 7,073 registered voters are expected to vote the 11 polling stations but so far every polling stations have reported atleast 26 people since the stations were opened at 6am.

Polling officers says they hope to receive more voters during the day but they will not meet the target.

Mombasa Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission returning officer Swalha Yusuf  on Saturday  said they are ready for Monday’s gubernatorial election.

The election had been postponed following a mix-up on the ballot papers.

Stiff competition is expected between Abdulswamad Nassir (ODM) and Hassan Omar (UDA).

 Swalha said adequate security has been deployed in all the 1,047 polling stations to ensure the exercise is peaceful.
