They are important because speakers of the bicameral House are in charge of the legislative agenda of the Executive in Parliament.
The position of the Speaker of the National Assembly steers the legislative agenda of the Executive in the House.
The holder of the position is also third in command after the President and the Deputy President. This means the influence of the position in the legislative process cannot be gainsaid.
Therefore, it goes without saying that the coalition forming the government would do whatever it takes to ensure it takes control of the bicameral House.
For Kenya Kwanza, we have the numbers and will ensure we capture control of the two houses in terms not just of the speakers but also other key leadership positions.
Once we have a firm grip on the two houses, it will be easy for the Kenya Kwanza team to successfully push its agenda.
With Kenya Kwanza's work cut out for it, taking control of the bicameral House is critical to drive our agenda and implement the policies that we promised during campaigns for the general election.
We have agreed as a coalition that we must do whatever it takes to ensure that we gain control of both the Senate and the National Assembly.
As a coalition, we have no doubt we shall secure the positions of both speakers of both houses and both majority whips.
Once we have Kenya Kwanza leaders elected in those positions, then the process of legislation to implement our policies would be smooth sailing for us in the two houses.
The Executive is only able to execute its agenda when it takes full control of Parliament.
In the next few days, the Kenya Kwanza coalition will make available its proposed leaders of the two house before Parliament holds its first sitting.
We have strategised how we are going to easily capture the seats to guarantee the success of the Kenya Kwanza agenda to transform this country.
