Relatives of slain IEBC official, Daniel Musyoka now claim that their kin could have been killed for refusing to take a bribe.
Musyoka's brother-in-law, Jackson Muimi and his sister Ann Mbolu told the Star that their kin was a God-fearing man and could have refused a bribe from his killers.
“We know who Daniel (Musyoka) is, he cannot be compromised by anyone. I suspect that someone must have attempted to bribe him to change the numbers in the just-concluded election, and he refused,” said Muimi.
The two said the slain Embakasi East constituency Returning officer was an honest person and he had no enemies.
Mbolu said Musyoka was also the leader and provider of their family despite him being younger than her.
“He is the most honest person we have in the family. I am married in Machakos and Musyoka was also able to provide for my husband and me whenever we were in need... He had no enemies, everywhere,” she said.
“We are just praying to God to guide the family he has left behind. He was the only breadwinner in the entire family.”
Musyoka went missing on August 11 from the East African School of Aviation tallying centre. He is believed to have disappeared at 9: 45 am.
Kajiado South Police Commander Kiprop Ruto said he suspects Musyoka could have been killed elsewhere, before his body was dumped about 2km outside Loitoktok town.
“We have handed over this case to DCI and hope that the killers will be brought to book the soonest,” Ruto said.
A post-mortem on Musyoka's body is expected to be conducted on Wednesday.
IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati said they were unable to reach him on August 11.
"Musyoka's family and the commission have been trying to reach him without success. A report of a missing person has been made at Embakasi police station," Chebukati said on Monday.
