UDA's Cecily Mbarire wins governor race in Embu

UDA's Cecily Mbarire has been declared the governor-elect of Embu County after she garnered 108, 610 votes.

Her main challenger Development Empowerment Party (Mbus) Lenny Kivuti got 105,046 votes.

Others in the race were Jubilee's Emilio Kathuri and DP's Njagi Kumantha.

Embu County boasts a total of 334, 302 registered voters, according to the gazetted voter register with Manyatta registering the highest number 106,588 followed by Runyenjes with 95,326.

Mbeere South ranks third with 77,264 and Mbeere North has 55,124 registered voters.

Mbarire garnered a total of 58,823 from both Manyatta and Mbeere South while Kivuti got 56,308 votes from the two sub-counties.

Manyatta which has the majority of votes saw Mbarire get 45,404 votes against Kivuti's 20,650 votes.

In Mbeere South, Kivuti trailed Mbarire after he garnered 35, 658 votes and Mbarire got 13,419 votes.

Speaking shortly after the declaration, Mbarire applauded Embu County residents for believing in her.

"I want to thank God for giving us the win today. I feel humbled. I also thank our security agencies for ensuring there's peace in the county all through the election process," said Mbarire.
