West Pokot United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party candidate Simon Kachapin has won the gubernatorial seat.

Kachapin was declared the winner after bagging 86,476 votes.

The incumbent governor John Lonyangapuo came in second with slightly over 84,610 votes.

Lonyangapuo was running on a Kenya Union Party (KUP) party ticket that is under Azimio La Umoja.

He will ascend to the county boss position for the second time having been the first governor of the county before being toppled in 2017.

Kachapin was defeated in the 2017 general elections by the incumbent county boss Lonyangapuo who vied on a Kanu ticket.

Deputy President William Ruto endorsed him to run on the UDA ticket.
