Former Eldama Ravine MP Musa Sirma has recaptured his seat after a 15-year absence.

Sirma also served as minister for East Africa and Regional Cooperation.

The former lawmaker made his comeback after contesting under the UDA ticket.

He was declared the winner after garnering 32,492 votes to clinch the seat that has eluded him in the last three elections.

Ngetung Emmanuel and the Independent candidate emerged second with 10,299 votes.

Other were Kanu's Carol Jepkosgei Tallam(3,475), Kiprop Daniel Kipngetich (433) and Ngaruiya Caleb Kipchirchir (782).

Sirma lost the seat twice to Moses Lessonet, who has now shifted focus to the Baringo gubernatorial contest.

In the run-up to the 2013 general election, Musa Sirma, then-Eldama Ravine MP, told current Deputy President William Ruto that he did not have Kalenjin votes in his pocket to determine how they vote.

Sirma was then campaigning for the ODM chief Raila Odinga to succeed President Mwai Kibaki.

First, forward to the build-up to the 2017 general election and Sirma warmed up to the Ruto camp, left Cord and joined Jubilee.

However, during the Jubilee primaries, he was beaten by Lesonet.

However, in August 2021, Sirma rejoined Ruto because of his conviction and resolve to unite Rift Valley behind the DP ahead of the August 9, 2022, election.

“I am now in UDA on the invitation and the long talks we have had with the Deputy President. We want to march to the 2022 general election as a strong team,” he told the Star.

“The DP has demonstrated his commitment to addressing the economic challenges facing Kenyans and we will work together to deliver on the hustler movement’s bottom-up economic model.”

UDA also swept all the six ward rep seats in the constituency with Ravine ward Julies Ngotie elected unopposed.

The densely populated Mumberes Maji Mazuri ward was won by Kuria Solomon Kariuki of UDA with 4,005 votes amid stiff competition from independent candidate, Saramei Daniel Kipkorir who garnered 3,596 votes.

Benjamin Koech(UDA) retained the Lembus ward seat with 4,751 votes. Independent candidate Victor Kipsang emerged with 4,094.

Another independent candidate Isaac Chemitei garnered 158 votes While Kanu's Haron Kipkosgei Rotich got 162 votes.

In Koibatek ward UDA’s Robert Kiplagat Kipsang won with 3,467 votes, while independent candidate Musa Cheruiyot Kipkurui emerged second with 2,590 votes. Anne Chematur Lagat of the CCM party managed 30 votes.

UDA maintained dominance in Lembus Perkerra ward where their candidate Kennedy Benjamin Kiprono won with 5,589 votes.

Kanu’s Kandie Sheila Jepchirchir got 111 votes, independents Kipchirchir Nicholas, Kibiwot Kelvin and Lameck Kimaru garnered 24, 36 and 43 votes respectively.

The results were declared at the constituency tallying centre in Baringo High School.
