Former CID Officer Patrick Simiyu Barasa is the MP elect for Cherangany.

Patrick Simiyu has won the Cherang'any MP race after beating seven other contestants in the August 9 general election.

The former CID officer garnered 26,743 votes to trounce incumbent MP Joshua Kutuny who got 5,312 to finish third.

Former MP Wesley Korir came second in the race with 26,078 votes.

Kutuny is among political bigwigs who have lost this year’s election. He conceded defeat on Wednesday.

He first lost the seat to Korir in the 2013 general election but recaptured it during the 2017 election.

Simiyu, a senior former detective who is also the Democratic Action Party County secretary, has been vying for the Cherangany Parliamentary seat since 2013.
