Homa Bay returning officer Fredrick Apopa wants two governor hopefuls Evans Kidero and Gladys Wanga to restrain their supporters from causing violence.

Apopa asked Wanga and Kidero to talk to their supporters and ensure they do not engage in chaos after the announcement of the final results.

He spoke as anxiety was building up among residents over delays in releasing results for the county gubernatorial seat.

Wanga and Kidero are the two front runners for the seat.

Mark Rabudi of UDA is also in the race.

"Ensure you maintain peace throughout this election exercise. Talk to your supporters so they aren't involved in any form of violence," Apopa said.

Speaking during a media briefing at Tom Mboya University which is the county tallying centre, Apopa said they were still waiting for results from constituency tallying centres before they announced the winner.

Wanga and ODM woman representative candidate Joyce Osogo attended the meeting. Kidero was conspicuously absent.

He said they must verify results from various forms such as 37A,38A and 39A before announcing the final results.

"The results for the governor, woman representative and senator seats must be announced together because they are collated," he added.

Apopa spoke as police arrested four youths they suspected were planning to cause chaos during tallying process.

Some crude weapons such as knives, clubs and a tear gas canister were recovered.

The arrests were made on Wednesday night.

Homa Bay Sub-county Police Commander Sammy Koskey said the suspects were milling around the county tallying centre.

They were confronted by police who were patrolling the area.

"We're interrogating them to establish their intention. They are detained at Homa Bay police station," Koskey said.
