The ODM party suffered a major blow in the Luanda constituency after their candidate Chris Omulele lost to DAP-K's Dick Maungu.

The incumbent, who has served the area for two terms, lost to the political debutant in a closely contested race, ending ODM's 15-year dominance in Luanda and Emuhaya.

Maungu garnered 15,298 votes while Omulele bagged 12,271 votes and UDA's candidate Tom Atingo got 3057 votes.

Other are Albert Obbuyi of Jubilee who got 3421 votes and Boaz Magomere of Progressive Party of Kenya(256).

The outgoing lawmaker was first elected in 2013 as Luanda MP after the larger Emuhaya constituency was split.

Omulele managed to defend his seat in 2017 after winning against Arthur Apungu.

However, Omulele is yet to publicly concede defeat, efforts to reach him were futile as he could not pick up our calls by the time of going to the press.

Luanda constituency has 56,310 registered voters, however, only 34,620 voters turned out to cast their ballot.

Some supporters have since accepted the results saying it represents the will of the people of the Luanda constituency.

In his acceptance speech, Maungu said he will serve all the residents equally.

"It's our democratic right to elect leaders and those elected must serve everybody whether they voted for them or not," Maungu said.
