Nyaribari Chache MP Tong'i concedes defeat

His main opponent Zaheer Jhanda is leading in the provisional results

Nyaribari Chache MP Richard Tong’i has conceded defeat even before IEBC announces the official results.

Tong’i who was defending his seat on a Jubilee Party ticket sent a message to journalists and posted the same in Whatsapp groups.

“I may not have done everything that the people of Nyaribari Chache wanted but I have no doubt in my mind that I did my very best to improve the constituency,” said the MP.

He said he initiated development projects, including the construction of tarmac roads, a Kenya Medical Training College, new schools and renovated others, more hospitals, bought school buses, among others.

He claimed that his main opponent spent millions of shillings on the campaigns.

“...Hence his win is not about good leadership. It’s my prayer that our lord has other great plans. I wish my new MP well as he serves our people,” concluded the MP.

According to preliminary reports, UDA candidate Zaheer Jhanda had taken an unassailable lead with Tong’i trailing. 16, 000 with Tong’i trailing by 14, 000.

If he is confirmed the winner, Jhanda, a Kenyan of Asian origin will be the next MP. He was born and raised in Kisii.

Constituency returning officer Mark Manko said the results were still streaming in

“So far, results are trickling in. In the presidential race, only six polling stations are yet to transmit results. I want to ask candidates and agents to be patient. There is nothing we are hiding here,” he said.

“We are committed to delivering a free and fair election. There is nothing to hide.”
