Media Council of Kenya has opened 7 media centres across major towns and cities to facilitate journalists covering elections.

Speaking in Nakuru Omwoyo said the centers will be in Nakuru, Mombasa, Kisumu, Kisii, Meru, Nyeri and Eldoret and a media center at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi.

These areas were targeted due to the critical role they play in terms of transition, population and the number of journalists or media houses moving there.

"The media centres are located strategically at the county tallying centres so that Journalists can be able to interact with IEBC officials and other newsmakers and file stories from a safer environment," Omwoyo said.

"We will have workstations with the internet, technical support and somewhere a journalist can do interviews. The Journalists will also get a chance to exchange ideas while filing their stories."

Omwoyo has also urged the Journalists to maintain professionalism while doing their job and to avoid giving unverified information which can cause unnecessary tension.

The Media Council has also assured Journalists of safety during the election, and a hotline number that any Journalist in distress can call for rescue.
