Roots party presidential candidate George Wajackoyah has left the Catholic University of East Africa where the presidential debate is scheduled to get underway.

Wajackoyah had arrived at the venue to seek audience with the presidential secretariat arguing that they had not been responding to his letter concerning the manner in which the debate will be held.

He wanted all four presidential candidates to have a joint debate as opposed to the two tier debate fronted by the secretariat.

"Nimeenda kwa ofisi (I have gone to the office)," Wajackoyah said after a short stop on the way out of the venue.

He had stopped to buy a portrait of him from a roadside artiste.

The Roots party boss had earlier arrived at the venue of the debate accompanied by his wife Meller Luchiri.

He told the Press he was not there to take part in the debate but to confirm whether or not his demands had been met.

“I am not going to debate unless we are four, that is what I have come to confirm, they never responded to my letter," Wajackoyah said.

"If the media wants to corrupt the intelligence of this society, if the media wants to run corruption in this country, if the media itself can do what they have done, to hell with them,” he said.

The Presidential Debate Candidate Secretariat had scheduled the debate to have two tiers of engagements.

Wajackoyah was to feature in the first tier debate alongside Agano Party candidate David Waihiga between 5pm and 7pm.

The second tier debate is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm to 10pm and was to feature Raila Odinga of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party and UDA's William Ruto.

The first debate is for candidates whose popularity in the recent three opinion polls stood below 5 per cent while the second is for candidates who polled above 5 per cent in the same debates.

But Wajackoyah insisted that having them in different debates was discriminatory.

He said for him to feature in the debate, all four candidates contesting for the top office must face off on the same podium at the same time.
