• Gachagua said that the plan was to intimidate Ruto, provoke him, and prosecute him, his friends and allies.

Kenya Kwanza presidential running mate Rigathi Gachagua during deputy president debate at CUEA on July 19,2022.

Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that President Uhuru Kenyatta wanted UDA presidential candidate William Ruto to resign so as to appoint Kanu chairman Gideon Moi

Gachagua said that the plan was to intimidate Ruto, provoke him, and persecute him and his friends.

"The plan was to provoke him, intimidate him, humiliate him, persecute him and his friends and his allies so that he could quit the government and allow Uhuru to appoint somebody from a family that they share the same issues and the same values.

"Ruto is not an appointee of Uhuru, he is elected by the people of Kenya, if it was the previous constitution, Ruto would have been sucked a long time ago and replaced with Gideon Moi," he said.

Gachagua argued that during a meeting at State House chaired by Uhuru, who is also the chairman of Azimio, "nominated Karua to take care of his interests and that of his family, which means Karua is his project".

"But because William Ruto was elected, he was able to hold onto his position and he continued serving," Gachagua said.

Gachagua further claimed that the differences between Uhuru and Ruto were caused by an inferiority complex on the part of the head of state.

"And by the way, the situation between President Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto has not been brought because of ideological differences. It has been brought about because of inferiority complex."

He was speaking during the deputy presidential debate at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa on Tuesday.
