I'll discharge my oversight role if elected, says Magara

He says as an accountant, he is well versed with management of public funds

Kisii senatorial candidate Omingo Magara has assured residents that he will properly discharge his oversight role if given an opportunity.

Magara said he understands well the responsibilities of a senator and thus will not sit and watch as the county messes up with public funds. He said that as an accountant, he is well versed with management of public funds.

"I am one person who takes serious matters of accountability. I am going to take my oversight role seriously, if elected," he told his supporters in Kisii town.

The former South Mugirango MP said things went wrong in the county because there was no proper oversight. 

Magara will battling for the seat with Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka, Ken Omanga and Richard Atemba. He at the same time that as a senator he will fight for allocation of more funds to the devolved unit.

"Time has come for our people to elect visionary leaders who will champion for their interests," he said.

The former legislator also called for peace as campaigns enter homestretch.

Onyonka, on his part, said that he is better suited to be Kisii senator considering his 15 years of experience as an MP.

"I have served  the people of Kitutu Chache South constituency for 15 years, so I do not see the reason why I will fail as a senator," he said.

Omanga said he understands challenges the county has been through in terms of financial management and hiring and thus will work to fix them if elected to the Senate.

"I have been a manager in various levels so I have the experience required to take the senator position," he said.
