Nairobi Gubernatorial debate to be held on July 11

The debate will be held in two phases based on candidates' popularity.

The Media Council of Kenya has for the first time organized Nairobi county gubernatorial debate.

In a statement on Monday, the Head of the Presidential Debate Secretariat Clifford Machoka said Nairobi will host its debate on Monday, July 11.

"In line with the now-established tradition, the Nairobi Gubernatorial Debate will be done in two tiers."

The first tier will have gubernatorial candidates whose popularity ratings, based on three recent opinion polls, stand below 5 percent. It will run from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm 

The second tier will have candidates who have polled above 5 percent in the same opinion surveys. It will go on air at 8:00pm and end at 9.30pm.

The first-tier debate will be moderated by  Serfine Achieng’ Ouma of KBC and Ayub Abdikadir of K24 TV.

The second-tier debate will be moderated by Zubeida Koome of KTN News and Mark Masai of NTV. 

Waihiga Mwaura of Citizen TV will be the Panel Moderator for discussions for both debates. 

The 2022 presidential debate will be held on  July 26, while that of Deputy Presidential candidates scheduled on Tuesday, July 19.

All debates will be held at the Catholic University for Eastern Africa (CUEA) main campus in Karen, Nairobi.
