Covid 19: Kenya records 258 new cases, one death

The positivity rate is now at 8 per cent.

Kenya on Friday recorded 258 new cases of Covid 19 from a sample size of 3,206 tested in the last 24 hours.

The positivity rate is now at 8 per cent.

A statement from the  Ministry of Health said 235 of the cases are Kenyans while 23 are foreigners.

Of these 142 are males and 116 females.

"The youngest is a three-year-old while the oldest is 95 years old," Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said.

Total confirmed positive cases are now 333,952 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 3,760,201.

One patient has succumbed to the disease therefore the cumulative fatalities are at 5,653. 

The Ministry said 419 patients have recovered from the disease.

The number of patients in the Home-Based and Isolation Care Program is 407 while 12 are from various health facilities countrywide.

This pushes the total recoveries to 324,372 of whom 271,155 are from the Home Based Care and Isolation program, while 53,217 are from various health facilities.

There are 134  patients currently admitted to the health facilities, while 3,793 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

Five patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), of whom four are on ventilator support while one is on supplemental oxygen.

There are 24 patients in the general wards, all on supplementary oxygen.

"No patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU)," CS Kagwe said.

So far, a total of 18,841,001 vaccines have been administered across the country.

The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
