Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has intensified campaigns for Deputy President William Ruto in the coastal region.
Kingi, who has been meeting groups of 1,000 grassroots opinion and influential leaders in each of Kilifi’s 35 wards, said Ruto is the only presidential candidate who has agreed to sign a pre-election pact with the region.
The Coast region, he said, can only be safe under the Kenya Kwanza Alliance government.
Currently, the governor is in the second constituency of Malindi after completing a tour of Magarini, where he is holding a series of similar meetings with grassroots opinion leaders.
This time he categorically told the residents to question Azimio la Umoja coalition leaders if they come to show them the coalition agreement they have with the Coast region.
He displayed in public the coalition agreement in which his Pamoja African Alliance Party signed with Kenya Kwanza and other partners as a symbol of commitment to have problems of the Coast addressed.
Kingi said the agreement was signed by many people but the first to sign was Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate Ruto.
He said those who signed on behalf of PAA party in the coalition agreement are Ibrahim Babangida who is the chairman and secretary-general Bennedict Furaha.
The governor, who rallied for five-piece voting, said the Coast region is tired of false promises and stories that do not benefit the people.
However, he said Coast is assured of getting back their land and the revival of its economy with a Ruto presidency.
He was accompanied by PAA party spokesman Lucas Maitha, former Malindi MP Willy Mtengo, nominated Senator Christine Zawadi and senatorial candidate Ben Kai, among others.
Maitha said Coast has suffered because of its loyalty and trust to other parties, adding that there is a new dawn.
He added that the region would not support any presidential candidate who did not sign a coalition agreement with them.
"The problem of the coastal person is that we love other people more than ourselves," he said.
Maitha said for their problems to come to an end, the region must change its style of voting.
"The first thing you must not support a party that is from outside the region. The vote that will go outside the region is one, and its because PAA signed an agreement with Ruto, and that's why we shall vote for him as president," he said.
Zawadi, on her part, said Coast has now woken up and will vote for their own in the region through PAA party.
