The National Police Service on Tuesday clarified that the woman posing as a police officer in a viral video on social media and who was allegedly harassing revellers is not an NPS officer.
The woman boasted that as a police officer, she had the power to search the revellers at any time without explaining herself.
"I am a police officer, I am allowed to touch your phone, I'm allowed to search your bag, I'm allowed to search your house. We have the power of arrest, power of entry into premises," she said.
The video showed the lady in a social club having an altercation with other revellers threatening to arrest them for some alleged crimes.
The impression created by the clip supposes that the said lady is a police officer misusing her law enforcement powers.
NPS said the lady in question is not a police officer under the NPS as she alleged but an enforcement officer working for Nairobi Metropolitan Service.
The Service said any claim made by her in the name of being a police inspector is viewed as impersonation.
They further clarified that officers are seconded to NMS to perform some specific tasks including training and discharging their mandate in compliance with the law, serving standing orders and in observance of the highest standards of discipline.
"We hold our officers accountable to such high standards to ensure efficient and effective service provision to the public," NPS said.
