Stupefying drugs commonly referred to as ‘Mchele’  and scientifically recognised as Oryza glaberrina is just but a cereal of the grass species Oryza Sativa.

For Kenyans ‘mchele’ is no longer a cereal seed; it's a trap, a charm by serial thieves aiming to harvest where they did not sow.

Recently, there have been so many cases of bar patrons being drugged and later robbed. Not one, but several people have fallen victims to this fast-rising menace which should be entirely rooted out.

Clubs in major towns are now collaborating with ‘mchele’ queens who approach a club patron and even spike his drink.

Most of those targeted individuals are usually men who have gone out to drink and are seated alone.

These ‘mchele’ queens take advantage of the loneliness and use that opportunity to lure them, spike their drinks and drug them.

As if spiking your drink and then stealing is not enough, you will be surprised that these thieves go an extra mile and even take loans from all loan apps.

However, there are numerous ways you can save yourself from falling into the trap of these criminals.

First, you should avoid sitting with strangers at the same table and drinking with them.

Visit your favourite joint with a friend or two who do not drink excessively, or do not drink at all.

The moment your drink is served, ensure you are focused on it.

Take time and finish your drink before leaving and if you leave it open, then you risk getting spiked.

Also, avoid getting excessively drunk because this can easily make you the target of these ‘mchele’ criminals.

When it comes to public transport too, never take food, drink or medication from strangers.

After buying your drink, head home and enjoy drinking in the comfort of your home, watching your favourite TV Show.

While at home, you will save yourself and your wallet from the ‘mchele’ queens.
