A standoff ensued on Wednesday at a meeting convened by Agriculture CS Peter Munya in Tharaka Nithi after members of the public implored him not to talk about deputy president William Ruto.
In a sensational video that has gone viral on social media, Munya was cut shot with pro-Ruto chants when he was about to attack the DP.
Munya had accused the DP of failing farmers while serving as the Agriculture CS only to be told by the crowd "achana na Ruto wewe" to mean "leave Ruto alone".
Munya had said that he was appointed to the docket just recently and has managed to bring a number of changes, unlike his predecessors who he said failed farmers across the country.
“Even DP Ruto was the Minister of Agriculture and he did not construct an NCPD for you yet he is busy moving around seeking votes for his August 9 presidential bid," he said before he was told off.
Munya could not stomach the backlash. He fired back at the crowd telling those who were angered by his swipe at the DP to exit his meeting.
“Don’t command me about what to talk about in my meeting, if so, why don’t you just go to his home?"
He further said the meeting was convened by him to speak about issues he deems fit.
Munya stated he will continue attacking the DP because that is what he has been doing to his opponents at campaign rallies.
“If you like his politics, why are you in my meeting? Is he God that I should not talk about? I will talk about him from dawn to evening, why is he talking about other people’s affairs?"
The CS held sensitisation meetings at Mitheru ACC Grounds and Ciakariga Chief Grounds in Tharaka Nithi county, during which the confrontation popped up.
The meetings were to keep farmers abreast with the national coffee farm inputs stimulus subsidy programme and coffee cherry advance revolving fund.
