President Uhuru Kenyatta poured glowing tribute to his predecessor the late President Mwai Kibaki during the state funeral service on Friday.

Uhuru describe Kibaki as an astute leader, distinguished gentleman and a principled and visionary politician who oversaw the country’s economic growth and set the foundation for future growth.

“Kibaki was by all means a model man and did not believe in loud shouting,” Uhuru said at the event held at Nyayo stadium.

The President said that Kibaki was a proven economist whose experience and ability to transform the economic was recognised not only locally but globally.

He said that the late president’s visionary leadership gave the vision 2013 blueprint giving the country on the path to massive development.

“Whereas Kibaki has rested, his service to our country will not rest until the last mile of his vision to our country is complete,” the President said.

The head of state, who led at least three visiting presidents and a host of representatives of various countries in paying the last respect to Kibaki, said the late president was one of the best economic brains Africa has ever had.

The President said that the former head of state was a diligent and a forgiving man who handled his lowest moments with care and away from the glare of the public.

He cited the 2007 post-election moment where he and Opposition leader Raila Odinga negotiated to end the bloodshed and agreed to share the government on a 50-50 basis.
