Police officers on Sunday recovered an abandoned motor vehicle at Gatonye near the Delmonte shop in Murang'a County.

This came after a night-shift driver at a local company reported sighting an empty neglected vehicle at around 0200hrs.

"Police officers recovered an abandoned Toyota fielder car Grey in colour with a tampered ignition kit," the National Police Service reported.

The vehicle was towed to Ngati Police station after the scene was processed by the DCI Crime Scene personnel. They suspect the car had been stolen.

"NPS has since established the vehicle particulars in efforts to identify the real owner and occupants at the time, their motive and safety," NPS added.

They further affirmed that cases of motor vehicle theft have significantly reduced due to proper human and technology surveillance by the commission jointly with motor-vehicle owners and private tracking companies.

NPS has urged the public to share information on garages and private compounds that are illegally used in the trade of stolen motor vehicles parts.

They have vowed to continue working to end such vandalism.
