•It is a shame and unfortunate that some leaders have never contributed to any House debate since they were elected.

•The electorates deserve a leader who fights for their needs.

A ballot box.

With a few months remaining before the August general election, individuals vying for the elective seats have hit the campaign trail wooing as many voters as they can to their camps.

The voters too have not been left out as they make efforts to realign themselves with their preferred candidate(s).

However, one is left wondering if our choice of leaders is pegged on the development track record.

The reality is, we settle on leaders based on flimsy excuses such as tribe, who gives more handouts, who attracts the largest crowds during campaigns, who gives unrealistic promises and an individual who is loyal to their political party to a fault.

All factors are constant, as people, we need to elect development-oriented leaders, leaders who are in touch with the needs of the common man, and individuals whose leadership style is not influenced by party politics or euphoria.

Any elected leader should have the ability to comprehensively articulate issues affecting their constituents through sponsoring bills.

It is a shame and unfortunate that some leaders have never contributed to any House debate since they were elected.

Why would we have such? Representation is not about the honourable title, riding on SUV cars, living in the leafy suburbs or just attending the parliamentary sessions or committees to earn per diem.

The electorates deserve a leader who fights for their needs.

Though we cannot run away from the fact that parties play a significant role in elective positions, one’s party should not stand in the way of the right candidate for a given position.

The electorates need to exercise their constitutional rights at the ballot.

World over, cases of rampant corruption have risen and little is being done especially in African countries.

As electorates, it is our responsibility to assign offices to individuals whose integrity is above board and acceptable.

Aspirants with questionable characters do not deserve to run for any office

Let not our greed and temporary benefits from aspirants blind us to electing individuals who fit no leadership position.
