A house help has been sent to jail after pleading guilty to stealing her employer’s money and taking it to a fake street pastor.

Faith Ondisa was accused of stealing Sh456,000 from Mary Mwatika at  Lavington in Dagoreti within Nairobi county.

"He (the pastor) told me that he knew my problems. He then advised me to stretch my hand, smear it with saliva and then told me that there was some money in my employer’s house," Ondisa told the court.

She pleaded guilty to the charges on Tuesday before Kibera magistrate William Tulel, but told the court that she was brainwashed by the conmen along the busy Ngong Road.

Prosecutor Ann Wanjiku told the court the accused carried the cash in a suitcase.

"She then lied to the guards that she was taking the suitcase for repair," Wanjiku said.

The prosecutor told the court that the complainant realised things were not in order after questioning some of the guards at the gate who informed her that the accused person left the compound with a suitcase.

Wanjiku also said the accused person switched off her phone moments later and bought a new line.

"When she checked her money, she found out that it was missing. She contacted the accused person but all was in vain as her phone had been switched off,” the prosecutor said.

The complainant decided to report the matter to the police and the accused person was tracked on a new number by detectives and arrested.

“Detectives at the Muthangari police station tracked her and arrested her while she was at a man’s house in Donholm. She admitted to stealing the said cash and was arraigned in court,” Wanjiku said.

Tulel ordered her to serve two years in jail or pay the complainant back her Sh456,000.

She gave her 14 days to appeal the sentence if she wished to do so.
