Former Kiambu governor William Kabogo has threatened to withdraw his support for Deputy President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza Alliance if his demands are not met.
Kabogo said they had agreed with DP Ruto that in two months, there will be a written document on the economic strategy he has for Mt Kenya when he wins the August vote.
He spoke to the press on Tuesday, March 22, after meeting aspirants under his Tujibebe Wakenya Party in Nyeri County.
Kabogo said that Ruto had promised he would adopt an economic model that would be used to allocate some funds to the county governments.
"I went to Ruto and I told him that one man one shilling would go a long way for the region. He answered that the model would hurt many counties, but promised me that additional money would be allocated to the counties in his administration," he said.
However, Kabogo insisted that he would need to have the DP's promise in writing ahead of the August 9 polls.
According to him, there are still four months to the election and a lot of things could change before then.
The aim of the economic strategy was to spell out how the Mt Kenya region would benefit from his government if he is elected president.
"I am in Kenya Kwanza but on a rider that Ruto must present a written document in two months on how he will handle economic matters of our region and if he fails to do so then I may change my mind,” Kabogo said.
“I only have one vote and if I was to vote now, it would go to DP Ruto unless I get a reason not to vote. But if something happens and I have to change my mind and vote for myself as president, I will,” he added.
Kabogo is contesting for Kiambu gubernatorial seat.
"In politics, a day is a long time. Things do change. You may find me on the ballot but we are not there yet," he said.
Kabogo will battle it out with Ferdinand Waititu (former Kiambu governor), the incumbent James Nyoro, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, Thika Town MP Patrick Wainaina, Senator Kimani Wamatangi and Kiambu County Assembly Speaker Stephen Ndichu for the seat.
Two women including Dr Juliet Kimemia and Mwende Gatabaki have also thrown their hats in the ring.
