Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri has ditched the ODM party.

The senator, who is eying the Kisii governor Seat, joined the DAP-K party on Monday.

DAP-K welcomed the Senator in a statement on Twitter.

"Senator, Professor Sam Ongeri welcome to the fastest growing political party North of the Limpopo and south of the Sahara, DAP-K," the party tweeted on Monday.

The Senator will however still back the ODM leader Raila Odinga for the presidency.

His defection comes in the wake of push and pulls in the Kisii governor seat race pitting the Azimio La Umoja movement.

Several close allies of the ODM leader were eyeing the Governor's seat on the Orange party ticket but the exit of Ongeri leaves Dangoretti North MP Simba Arati with a big chance to fly the party's ticket.

Other leaders eyeing the governor seat on the Azimio ticket include former CAS Chris Obure who is eyeing the Jubilee Party ticket.

Former South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara is also eyeing the seat on the Jubilee party ticket.

On the Kenya Kwanza side, Nyaribari Masaba MP Ezekiel Machogu is seeking the governor seat on the UDA party ticket.

Kisii deputy governor who recently moved back to the UDA party will be seeking the Kisii senatorial seat.
