Three deaths, 2,216 new cases of Covid confirmed

Fifty-one patients are in the Intensive Care Unit.

The Ministry of Health has announced 2,216 new cases of coronavirus from a sample size of 8,669 tested in the last 24 hours.

The positivity rate stands at 25.6 per cent.

In a statement on Wednesday, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said that from the cases, 1,984 are Kenyans while 232 are foreigners and that 1,124 are males and 1,092 are females.

The youngest patient is a two-month-old child while the oldest is 105 years.

This brings the total confirmed positive cases to 304,350 and the cumulative tests conducted are 3,065,623.

Distribution of cases

From the cases, Nairobi leads with 861 cases, Siaya 149, Nakuru 119, Kiambu 99, Kitui 99, Nyamira 94, Uasin Gishu 80, Laikipia 67, Mombasa 67, Migori 56, Turkana 55, Kericho 54, Kakamega 49, Kilifi 35, Kisumu 33, Nyeri 28, Kirinyaga 27, Murang'a 24, Nyandarua 22, Kajiado 20.

Homa Bay 17, Bungoma 16, Taita Taveta 16, Embu 15, Baringo 13, Tharaka Nithi 13, Makueni 11, Nandi 11, Lamu 9, West Pokot 8, Busia 8, Garissa 7, Machakos 7, Meru 5, Marsabit 4, Narok 4, Elgeyo Marakwet 3, Trans Nzoia 3, Wajir 3, Kisii 2, Bomet 1, Kwale 1 and Vihiga 1.

Also, 775 patients have recovered from the disease, 578 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 197 are from various health facilities countrywide.

The total recoveries now stand at 259,308 of whom 209,648 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation program, while 49,660 are from various health facilities countrywide.

The CS said that three patients have succumbed to the disease, pushing the cumulative fatalities to 5,404.

A total of 1,226 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 25,969 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

Fifty-one patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 27 of them on ventilatory support while 18 are on supplemental oxygen. 6 patients are under observation.

Another 328 patients are on supplemental oxygen and 292 of them are in the general wards. 36 patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination

As of January 4, 2022, a total of 10,310,606 vaccines had been administered across the country. Of these, 5,942,632 are partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated are 4,321,150.

Another 22,885 are doses administered to those between 15 to 18 years while 23,939 are booster doses.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 56.1 per cent. Proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 15.9 per cent.
