2,844 new Covid-19 cases, one death recorded

159 patients have recovered from the disease, bringing the total recoveries to 249,474.

Kenya on Tuesday recorded 2,844 new Covid-19 cases from a sample size of 10,215 tested in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate is now at 27.8%.

From the cases, 2,561 are Kenyans while 283 are foreigners, with 1,513 being females and 1,331 are males.

The youngest is a one-month-old infant while the oldest is 98 years.

This brings the total confirmed positive cases to 267,571 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,943,979.

A total of 159 patients have recovered from the disease, 82 are from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 77 are from various health facilities countrywide.

The total recoveries now stand at 249,474, of whom 201,236 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation programme, while 48,238 are from various health facilities countrywide.

One patient has succumbed to the disease, it being a late death reported after conducting facility record audits in the month of December 2021.

This now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 5,354.

A total of 404 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 6,339 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

Nineteen patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 11 of them on ventilatory support while 8 are on supplemental oxygen.

Another 83 patients are on supplemental oxygen and 79 of them are in the general wards. Four patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

As of December 20, a total of 9,057,426 vaccines had so far been administered across the country.

Of these, 5,397,849 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were3,659,577.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 56.2%.

Proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 13.4%.
