Kenya on Friday recorded 136 new Covid-19 cases from a sample size of 4,895 tested in the last 24 hours with the positivity rate now at 2.8 per cent.
Heath CS Mutahi Kagwe, in a statement, said that 110 of the new cases recorded are Kenyans while 26 are foreigners, with 78 being males and 58 being females.
The youngest is a 14-year-old while the oldest is 83 years.
This now brings the total confirmed positive cases to 255,932 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,879,290.
He also stated that eight patients have recovered from the disease with six from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while two are from various health facilities countrywide.
The total recoveries now stand at 248,488 of whom 200,509 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation program, while 47,979 are from various health facilities countrywide.
Three patients have succumbed to the disease, all of them being late deaths recorded after conducting facility record audits in the months of November and December 2021.
This now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 5,342.
A total of 203 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 841 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.
Two patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and all of them are on ventilatory support.
A total of 49 patients are on supplemental oxygen with 48 of them being in the general wards.
One patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
As of December 9, Kenya recorded a total of 125,248 vaccines administered on a single day, 64,148 are first doses while 61,100 are second doses.
"I am happy to note that we have crossed the 8 million mark in the total number of persons vaccinated in the country. We have also recorded the highest number of vaccines administered on a single day," Kagwe said.
A total of 8,018,413 vaccines had so far been administered across the country.
Of these, 4,840,279 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 3,178,134.
The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 57.4%.
Proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 11.7 per cent.
