A man and woman accused of drugging and stealing from an M-Pesa agent along Kiambu Road, Nairobi were arrested at the Kenya –Uganda border.
The Asian man and woman were arrested as they crossed from Uganda to Kenya Tuesday evening over the crime that happened on October 25 at an M-Pesa and liquor shop at Ridgeways area, Kiambu Road, Nairobi.
The two were moved to Nairobi for further profiling and processing and possible arraignment.
Police say they are pursuing more suspects into the said crime of stupefying people in joints before stealing from them.
The suspects’ activities were captured on CCTV cameras.
They first approached the attendant and asked her to sell them a five-litre bottle of alcohol but the brand they wanted was unavailable.
As the woman and the seller conversed, the man was captured giving an old Sh50 note to another lady at the counter.
Police believe that the note was used to put the woman in a trance.
At that point, the attendant said, they asked to withdraw Sh97,000 but were told only Sh60,000 was available.
As the two suspects and the lady discussed, a third woman believed to be part of the gang entered the shop and started a conversation with the other seller.
This move was in a bid to distract her from focusing on the discussion focusing on her colleague.
The two other suspects, meanwhile, escorted the lady to another counter where she handed over bundles of money unknowingly.
One of the suspects, the man, was captured counting and pocketing the cash, believed to amount to over Sh50,000 and left.
It was until a few minutes later that the attendants realized they had been swindled.
Police believe that is a new trend and the two were in Uganda for a similar mission.
DCI boss George Kinoti said they are pursuing the matter to establish if it involves many others who are at large.
