New KCC has restructured her operations for the benefit of the dairy farmers.

The company's management says it has stepped up efficiency so as to ensure no milk goes to waste due to delay.

Managing director Nixon Sigei said New KCC makes Sh5 billion every year from milk supply unlike before when the company could not do so.

Every month, the MD said, the company makes Sh400 million from milk supplied to the company by dairy farmers.

While addressing Kabianga dairy farmers in Belgut constituency, Kericho county, on Friday, Sigei attributed the upward trend in milk business to competition from 30 new companies.

MD Sigei was the chief guest during the commissioning of a 5,000-litter cooler  donated to farmers on top of Sh300,000 for establishment of an administration block.

He said unlike before when KCC could not buy the entire supply of milk from farmers, today New KCC can afford to receive 800,000 litres  per day and even more after undergoing restructuring that is friendly to the farmer.

"Majority of the farmers used to see their milk go to waste since KCC could not afford to buy the huge supply of milk," MD Sigei said.

Sigei said KCC  was then the sole  milk processor and never cared whether the farmers' excess milk went to waste or not.

"Due to the competition from other players in the sector, New KCC has restructured to remain relevant in the milk business," Sigei said.

New KCC Sigei said in only six months Kabianga had been able to receive 400,000 liters of milk from local farmers.

"During this short period the Kabianga dairy farmers have been earning a total of Sh15 million per month," Sigei said.

Kabianga Dairy Farmers chairman Mike Koros said they started with supply of 40,000 liters of milk to New KCC in February and increased the volume to 400,000 liters by last month.
