The Form 4 student killed at a girls' high school has been laid to rest in Ngegu village in Kiambu county.
Brian Mbage’s family, friends, relatives and fellow students were yet to come to terms with his death as was evidenced by emotional tributes during his funeral service on Wednesday.
The Gathiruini Boys Secondary School student was eulogised as a humorous, hardworking and peaceful young man who concentrated on his work. He was aged 17.
It was alleged that Mbage was with four other students on the night of October 21 when they walked to the nearby Komothai Girls High School and sneaked into the compound.
Some of the girls noticed them and screamed. The girls gave chase, caught up with Mbage and beat him up as the other four escaped. He suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Kigumo Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Three Komothai Girls security guards Joseph Mutahi, Kennedy Muriuki and Mary Achieng have been arrested in connection with the incident and arraigned before Githunguri senior resident magistrate Victor Asiyo.
They have not taken a plea as the prosecution asked for more time to finish investigations. They will be produced again next Monday.
During the funeral, the bereaved family raised questions and called for thorough investigations. Mary Wanjiru said her son should have been arrested if he committed an offence.
“I want to know why my son was killed. If he was caught in indiscipline, I was supposed to be called to discuss it” she said.
Gathiruini Boys deputy principal Johanna Obwoge regretted that they lost a student with a bright future. He promised to help the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to unravel what happened.
Githunguri deputy subcounty police commander George Kipkoros said some witnesses had recorded the statements.
The police also appealed to people not to take the law into their own hands by attacking or killing suspects and instead hand over suspects to them for action.
