National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi wants corruption cases given a timeline within which they can be concluded.

Muturi said corruption cases linger in court for prolonged periods, with most of them never being concluded which he noted amounts to defeating justice.

“We must give corruption cases a timeframe within which they must be concluded," the Speaker said.

The Speaker made his stand in a live Twitter chat with Kenyans who engaged him in a wide range of topics to explain the suitability of his bid as a presidential candidate in next year’s General Election.

Muturi, who was recently anointed as the Mt Kenya spokesperson, has thrown his hat in the ring among other presidential aspirants from the region.

This was his first live social media chat, which he said he will do every alternate Wednesday.

“The actors in the administration of justice must have synchronised standards of operation. Investigations and prosecutions must be timed and made public.”

On how to revamp Kenya’s economy, Muturi said his priority would be to curb runaway borrowing which has burdened Kenyans with debt.

He wrote in answer to a question: “We must stop borrowing, renegotiate the high-interest loans, stop white elephant projects and refocus on food security alongside a predictable tax regime.”

The Speaker added that he would also prioritise taming of rampant wastage in government by having the right policies which would create an enabling environment for business and job creation.

Muturi said he would also put the youth on top of development strategy, noting that they form the highest percentage of the population.

“The youth must now step up to actualise themselves. They must stop being used as projects for politicians and start seeking leadership positions,” he said.
