It was joy for a Form 1 girl at Kapkirwok High School after Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga agreed to educate her.

Purity Yego on Sunday trekked for 40km from their home in Kopsiro village in Mt Elgon constituency to neighbouring Kabuchai constituency to seek financial help from the legislator.

The girl, who lives with her grandmother, Margaret Chemtai Ndiema, has stayed home for three months since she dropped out of school due to lack of fees.

Yego has been staying with her grandmother after her mother disappeared during the 2007 land clashes while the father's whereabouts are unknown.

The legislator has agreed to adopt the girl and is set to educate her up to university. The 16-year-old wants to become a doctor in the future.

Her grandfather, who used to pay for her school fees, passed away in February leaving her in limbo .

"My grandmother tills people's lands for survival. She can't raise my school fees after my grandfather died," she said.

"My burning desire to find a way of going back to school forced me to travel for eight hours to Chwele to meet the MP," she said.

Her grandmother said that she realised that her granddaughter had disappeared and she didn't know where she was until she showed up at the legislator's place.

"I asked her where she was going and she said that she was taking the books to her friend who had requested them and left. She did not return,"she said.

Kalasinga said that he was touched by the girl's plight.

He has asked Mt Elgon MP Fred Kapondi to allow him assist the pupil achieve her dream.
