In Summary

  • A gullible and humiliated woman MCA in Nairobi doesn't want to admit she was swindled out of Sh1 million in an all-too-common scheme.
  • Why would women say there's not a level political playing field? They've decided to run as independents as they think leaders play favourites.
Police Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai.

Could there be a communication problem about why a hospital for all security agencies is being built at the Kabete military barracks? A group of police, prisons and other officials are quietly campaigning, urging colleagues to shun the facility recently launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta. They are worried they could be harassed by overzealous soldiers manning the hospital gates. They say it would be nearly impossible for their families to visit them, if they are admitted. "We need our own hospital and unless the military moves away from there and it ceases being a military facility, it remains theirs," one senior police officer said. Maybe police IG Hillary Mutyambai (pictured) and his prisons counterpart Wycliffe Ogallo have some explaining to do.

A woman MCA in Nairobi is said to have lost Sh1 million after being lured into a fast-money scam. The politician fell prey to the 'wash wash' scheme and is yet to report the theft to authorities because she's embarrassed and fears she would appear gullible.  The legislator is suffering in silence and regrets she believed her money would be multiplied in the blink of an eye. The conmen had promised to multiply the Sh1 million tenfold. The politician has only shared her tribulations with close friends. You know what they say, if it seems too good to be true ...

Some female aspirants from Western Kenya are said to be  plotting to run as independents for fear they would be shortchanged during party primaries. They say primaries in 2017 were skewed to favour of some aspirants and party leaders are yet to convince them of a level playing field. They say they only need to market the party's presidential candidate on the ground, shun nominations and run as independent candidates. They say some of their opponents seem guaranteed to get nomination tickets owing to their close ties with party leaders.

A self-announced, half-baked endorsement has backfired. A Central Kenya politician tried to hoodwink voters into thinking he is the anointed one for the governor's seat in 2022. The man publicly stated he would be given a party ticket by one of the top parties. The move has left the party leadership divided as the move was uncalled and unplanned for. The man, known for his theatrics, has gone mute on the issue as it seems his bosses were disappointed at his rather sly and dirty card that has led to uproar from the party's supporters across the region. Only time will tell what happens to his half-baked ambitions.
