Prosperity House housing county offices, Huduma center catches fire

A fire broke out at the Prosperity building 9th floor on Sunday afternoon affecting three offices belonging to the County Government of Kisumu.

The building houses Huduma Center on the ground floor, county government offices, and the County Commissioner’s officer among others.

The cause of the fire was not established immediately at the Urban Planning and Lands Department, LREB

According to County Commissioner Josephine Ouko, they received a call from officers manning the building that there was smoke emanating from the 9th floor.

Ouko noted that they immediately mobilized the response team who speedily reached the venue to put off the fire.

"Only three offices were affected by the county government that is LREB, Ministry of Land and panning,” she said.

She noted that because of the quick response, the fire was not able to spread to other offices within the building.

The county commissioner further stated that the investigation team who were also present at the scene have begun looking into the matter to ascertain the cause of the fire.

Kisumu County fire brigade rushed to the scene to extinguish the fire, 15 minutes later and helped control the blaze within less than an hour.

"The fire brigade team succeeded in bringing the fire under control within minutes stopping the spread from other offices and we appreciate them for the swift response".

The fire is said to have left several office documents, office stationery, computer accessories destroyed.

There was no report of any casualties.
