A nurse has shown a rare kind of generosity by putting up a police station for officers operating at Ngaaie police post, who initially operated under a tree.
Regina Mathuva, who runs a private clinic at Mwingi town, says she was touched by the plight of the officers who had no offices and sought permission from Kyuso subcounty police commander to construct for them a building with offices and polices cells at a cost of Sh1.5 million.
Mathuva said she visited the Ngaaie police post one day but to her surprise, the officers were operating under a tree in their residential compound.
She said at some point had to move to the nearby market centre to seek shelter after it started to rain.
This, she says, is what touched her and informed her decision to construct the new offices for the police.
"After sitting under a tree due to lack of an office, it started raining, and the officers said we had to move to a nearby market centre to find shelter as they attended to my issue. This moved me," she said.
Ngaaie Market chair Japeth Wambua said the newly constructed offices will improve the security of the market which has been improving since the police officers were brought to the area.
He called for more officers to be brought in now that the police station is complete.
Speaking during the official opening of the offices, Kyuso OCPD Beatrice Kigalu thanked the well-wisher for the generosity she showed the police.
She also urged members of the public to utilise the presence of the police to ensure improved security.
