The Independent Policing Oversight Authority has started investigating the death of a man in Kayole estate, Nairobi.

John Kiiru, 38, is believed to have been killed by police officers enforcing the curfew.

His body was found on Thursday morning, prompting protests and running battles between protesters and the police in Kayole.

IPOA chairperson Anne Makori in a statement said their investigation will seek to establish whether the death falls within the authority's mandate of holding police accountable for their actions.

"It will also seek to establish whether the deceased succumbed to injuies allegedly caused by police officers enforcing curfew orders," she said.

Makori said if culpability is found, the authority will make recommendations to the relevant state agencies and apprise the public of its findings.
