DCI has obtained a court order to detain a prison warder who allegedly posed as a detective and abducted a 20-year-old man in Githurai for ransom.

Victor Muatia Liveha, a warder attached to Kamiti Maximum Security Prisons, will spend five more days at Kasarani police station pending investigations.

His arrest brings to four the number who have been arrested in connection with the offence.

Three other civilians who were arrested are in police custody and will be back in court on Friday.

Muatia was arraigned on Monday before Makadara chief magistrate Heston Nyagah under a miscellaneous application.

In an affidavit seeking a five-day custodial order to detain him, Sergeant Charles Musyimi attached to DCI Kasarani told the court  he is investigating a case of robbery with violence.

He said that Muatia was arrested on July 23 on suspicion he had committed robbery with violence.

“Your Honour, the respondent in company of others abducted one Felix Kimathi at Githurai 44 area on July, 20 by falsely pretending they were DCI officers from Kasarani,” he said.

He said  preliminary investigations revealed Sh28,000 was stolen from the complainant and Sh4,200 was withdrawn through M-Pesa.

The complainant’s mother reported the matter to Kasarani police station.

The abductors had demanded Sh40,000 but the complainant’s mother sent Sh4,300 to his son’s mobile number which was meant to secure his release.

The victim was later dropped at Githurai roundabout at about 1pm  after his captors received Sh32,200.

Musyimi said that the respondent is willing to assist the officers in apprehension of more suspects and thus they need to detain him for five more days to complete the investigations.

“The respondent is offering crucial leads which might lead to the arrest of his accomplices. If released on bail he might interfere with investigations,” he said.

Nyaga granted the orders. The matter will be mentioned on Friday.
