Deputy President William Ruto has revealed that Sugar cartels had a hand in his shift from the Agriculture ministry under the Grand Coalition Government.
Speaking during an interview with Radio Jambo at his residence in Karen on Tuesday, Ruto explained that he has been a target of many who have seen him as a political threat from way before he even became the Deputy President.
"My contribution in the Agriculture ministry is on record but the Sugar cartels made sure I was sent away," he said.
Ruto noted that the same cartels are the ones who have taken over the Jubilee Party.
In 2010, President Kibaki in a mini-reshuffle moved Ruto who was then Eldoret North MP from the Agriculture docket to what was seen as a less glamorous Ministry of Higher Education Science and Technology.
Ruto had been appointed to the Cabinet courtesy of ODM leader Raila Odinga following the disputed 2007 presidential results that led to the formation of the Grand Coalition Government.
During his tenure at Kilimo House between 2008-2009, Ruto, who swapped positions with then Aldai MP Sally Kosgei, was credited for prioritising the country's food security which saw him introduce free farm inputs to farmers to boost food production.
He also spearheaded the revival of irrigation schemes across the country.
The DP said that the Jubilee government achieved more in the first term, noting that the handshake hijacked its second term.
"Maendeleo cannot be done overnight but the achievements we did with Uhuru in the first five years are on record."
The second term was hijacked because of the handshake and focus drifted to BBI and other none important issues," Ruto added.
