Konza CEO elected as African President for International Association of Science

Tanui said his main role will be to enhance the growth of science parks in Africa.

Konza technopolis CEO John Tanui has been elected as President of the African Division for the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP).

Tanui was elected on July 1 by African members who met online to mark the handover. He replaces the outgoing president Hauwa Yabani of Nigeria, who is also Abuja Technology Village (ATV) CEO.

Tanui said his role will be to bring together the science parks and the divisions of innovation in Africa and to enhance the growth of science parks across the continent.

Following his election, ICT CS Joe Mucheru congratulated Tanui on his new role in the world of science and technology.

IASP is a global network for Science and Technology Parks (parks referred to as innovation clusters) that drives growth, internationalisation, and effectiveness for its members including the countries that constitute the Africa Division.

It is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organisation in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

IASP’s mission is to be the global network for science parks and areas of innovation and to drive growth, internationalisation, and effectiveness for its members.

The association was created in 1984 and has 350 members, 115 thousand companies, and has 75 countries.

In March 2021, Konza Technopolis Development Authority hosted the IASP Africa Division Web Forum, where African nations were urged to adopt digital solutions towards achieving economic recovery from impacts of Covid-19 pandemic.
