Three jua kali artisans want a court to compel the Nairobi government to issue them with title deeds for Kariobangi South plots.

Mohamed Issa, Arthur Gakuya and Alice Wanjiru says they have occupied the plots since 1979. They carry out jua kali businesses - motor garages, welding, storage of and sale of timber and construction stones.

The artisans have for long been demanding lease titles for the plots, but they say the county government has not been responsive.

“We are afraid that officials of the county government may be fraudulently allotting our land to third parties, in violation of court orders and in violation of our settlement agreements,” they claim in court documents.

In 1990, then President Moi ordered that jua kali artisans in the area be issued with letters of allotment but up to date, the county government is yet to issue them with the titles.
