Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka has urged Luhya leaders to unite if they ever want to get power.

He called on ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya's Moses Wetang’ula and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya to shelve their presidential ambitions, unite and come up with a formidable team.

“Every team player has a number to play and if we take our positions and coordinate well we shall be able to score. The most important thing is to score into our opponent’s goal and avoid scoring into our own goal,” Lusaka said

Speaking during a funds drive for a church in Navakholo constituency, Lusaka said all Mulembe nation leaders have a good chance of winning if they unite and play their cards as a team.

“As a team, we shall look for the player in a good position and give him a pass to score and we shall have won as a team. But if we are in a team and everyone wants to score, we shall be confused and lose terribly. And we'll have only ourselves to blame."

“We need to do politics that can help wananchi, no one goes into politics to be in opposition, one just find themselves in opposition by bad luck. So we should join  with others to form the government.” The speaker stated

Lusaka said the Luhyas have the numbers and thus the political bargaining force. But the biggest problem is that unity is very elusive, leaving them with no option but to play as a swing vote tribe.

He, however, indicated that for 2022 Luhyas should join hands and throw their support behind Deputy President William Ruto saying that this way they had a chance of taking number two and eventually number one after Ruto’s term.

The Senate speaker was joined by Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe the host, Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama, Matungu MP Murunga, Lurambi MP Bishop Titus Khamala, and Kakamega Women Representative Elsie Muhanda, among others.
