Musician Esther Akoth aka Akothee has been invited to Tiaty in Baringo county, for a special crowning ceremony by the Pokot.
The celebrity won the hearts when she raised over Sh3 million for food and water to drought victims in the neighbouring Turkana county.
“Our people here in Baringo, especially in Tiaty, are equally hungry. In fact, they are growing emaciated daily while a number of them have lost their lives since January owing to starvation,” Philomena Chepokamoi said.
Chepokamoi spoke on Saturday when Pokot professionals distributed 150 bags of maize to hunger victims at Komolion village. They were led by Nairobi-based senior principal magistrate Linus Limatiang, his colleagues and friends.
Mary Chepochombus and Milka Cheposokong said Pokot women have prepared a full set of a well-decorated traditional skin attire to give Akothee anytime she lands in Baringo.
Akothee is controversial due to her provocative dance styles. Her performances have sparked a national debate on decency.
Pokot elders have at the same time invited President Uhuru Kenyatta and Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko to be made elders of the community.
“This is to appreciate the Jubilee government for moving fast last week to save our people’s lives by supplying us with relief food,” Arekwen Lokdir said.
Akothee’s special gift
The unique attire is made up of a traditional skirt sewn from a fine brown goatskin that barely covers the loins. It is called Atelo. Another dress item is the Alecho. It covers the breasts. Also part of the attire are a special belt made of skin and beads for the waist.
Numerous necklaces, bracelets are attached to the attire.
Pomposoi is made of beaded two skin pieces that cross at the stomach and the back.
Should Akothee accept the offer, more than 100 Pokot morans will be at hand to showcase their unique traditional dancing skills and "compete for recognition and attempt to catch her eye".
The songbird, best known as Madam Boss, has been criticised on many occasions for he revealing dresses.
