Kibra MP Ken Okoth has told Kenyans that he is managing his stage-four colorectal cancer and will survive.

Okoth, 41, is serving his second term. He showed confidence that he will overcome 'the monster' in a Twitter reply yesterday to Benjie Wambui.

“How are you Mheshimiwa? I am praying for you today,” Wambui had posted.

Okoth responded, “Napambana na hali yangu (I’m managing my condition) and we shall overcome.” His latest pictures, captured after he had undergone chemotherapy, accompanied the reply.

“Chemo drugs are brutal on the skin and immune system," Okoth said.

In February, the lawmaker had announced in February that he was diagnosed with stage-four colorectal cancer that had metastasised to the liver.

Colorectal cancer develops in both the colon and rectum. Okoth said the doctors were treating ulcer symptoms and bacterial infections before he was diagnosed with cancer. He was experiencing abdominal pain and weight loss.

Social media users were quick to offer support, encouragement and prayers,  urging him to soldier on in his fight against "the monster".

“We pray for you, that you get the strength and determination to go through,” lawyer Nelson Havi said.

Kennedy Gates wished the MP quick recovery. “To me, you are a champion even in your political articulation I always thought you sounded informed and strong. We were of different political affiliation, but I saw a champ in you, sir,” he said.

Victor Rop told the MP to soldier on and be confident to give a testimonial soon. "We are praying for you,” he said. Dennis Ketone said Okoth is a fighter and God will grant him the strength and peace to keep up the fight.

Evans Tanui said, “You will be fine Hon, Okoth. God will take you through to recovery.”
